The conversation is started with :
Me : “I prefer starbucks rather than 호프 (read : Hope – korean bar)”
HY : “do you know 된장녀 (read as doen.jang.nyeo) ??…it’s a secret language ^^”
hohoho…It’s always interesting to have a chat with her… HY (HaeYeong)… i always got a new word day by day…the problem is just whether i able to memorize it or not xixixi
Sooo what is 된장녀 (read as doen.jang.nyeo)??? Anybody has an idea??
First…let’s separate the word into 된장 (read as doen.jang) + 녀 (read as nyeo)
And for some korean meal lovers, 된장 is not a new thing… There are lot of meals made from 된장… it’s a fermented soy bean paste (just like the wiki said)
And the meaning of 녀 is “a woman”
Soooo… 된장녀 is….doen.jang woman… ^^
But it’s not offer yet..
Then what’s the meaning of it?!?!?!?
– a woman who likes to eat 된장 ?? * bee peep *
– a woman who makes 된장 ?? * bee peep *
And remember the first conversation was about starbucks?…
as a coffee lovers you might know it well… most of the coffee+milk (not espresso) has brown color, and the color of 된장 is also brown…
*already see the correlation??*
both of it has the same color (at least that’s what they thought ^^)
so..any other idea about 된장녀?
– a woman who likes 된장 and bucks?? * bee peep *
If you read the wiki carefully, it’s written that “된장 sometimes produces an unpleasant fish-like smell”
And for common people… (i also agree with this thought) Bucks is an expensive thing right???
된장 = brown, smelly
bucks = brown, expensive
after several guesses… finally got the result…
so it’s like a idiom in here…
The meaning of 된장녀 is a woman who is actually has not enough money, BUT she always want to be seen as a luxury person…wearing branded things, eating in high-class restaurant etc etc..and she might do lot of things to achieve that appearance…like borrowing money…or else
Yeah… that’s what happen in here…and i think it’s kinda the same in other countries too, it’s just different word for them…
In my opinion, it’s not just in here, even in indo i saw some too..
Some people try their best to be seen as luxury as they could… but to achieve that, they sell some stuffs, or borrow some moneys from friends, family… or other..
Ok then..end of lesson for today ^^
Special thanks to HaeYeong ^^
